Next race meeting - Thursday 29th of September - Followed by live music by Jess Herring in the Sports Bar

Britain’s newest racing venue offers thrilling all-weather racing under the mesmerizing light of its champagne fluted floodlights and the venue also highlights its versatility with a huge range of non-raceday events.

Christmas Party packages available on race days and non-race days, packages start from as little as £40pp. For more information, please call 01245 360 300.

The brand new facilities provide a wonderful setting from which to anchor your raceday experience. The Grandstand boasts two restaurants, one ideal for families, friends and corporate events, the other, a more formal environment and perfect to celebrate special occasions. The restaurants are complimented by the lively Sports Bar area offering various raceday packages and bars for general admission.

In terms of prize money offered to our racing connections, Chelmsford City Racecourse consistently achieves its aim of sitting near the top of the table with regard to value and the course is reaping the rewards by hosting competitive races with large fields of runners.

Non-raceday events for 2016 include concerts, comedy and murder mystery nights, wedding and antiques fairs and a whole host more, details of all of these events can be found under our “Venue Hire” tab.

Coming up over the next couple of months we will be staging a racing themed Murder Mystery night (12th November), will you be able to solve the “Tale of the Dark Horse”?

Following that we have our inaugural “Catwalk at the Course” on 19th November where a host of local and national designers will be showcasing their finest trends for the upcoming seasons.

Runners, Riders and Races

Thursday 29th September – 8 races

The latest in our run of Thursday fixtures all the way to Christmas is another bumper card of runners with 96 horses declared in 8 races.  Gates open at 3.40pm and there’s a nice purse of over £53,000 on offer to horsemen.

The first four races of the evening are all for two year olds so we’re likely to see some improving youngsters who will no doubt continue on an upward curve in to 2017.

Race 1, a nursery stakes sponsored by Totepool, is due off at 5.40pm and Jamie Osborne’s Swallow Street must surely go very close having won a 19 runner event last time out on turf.

Our third race at 6.40pm is a very interesting maiden fillies race over seven furlongs.  A big field of 14 sees quite a few runners set foot on a racecourse for the first time.  But they are all from very good yards and it would be no surprise to see Hugo Palmer’s Hyper Dream make a dream start to her career with top jockey Jim Crowley on board.  Hyper Dream was purchased for a very tidy 295,000 Euros as a yearling…

The feature race of the night is the stakes at 7.40pm – a handicap race over a mile with a £10,000 prizemoney pool.  Fifteen runners go to post in a race that looks very tricky on paper as so many of the runners are closely rated.  The bottom weight Broughtons Vision seems to really like all-weather surfaces and he should go well at a decent price for trainer Willie Musson.

Both Jim Crowley and Silvestre de Sousa again have a bunch of rides during the evening – can Silvestre inch a win or two closer in the race for the 2016 Flat jockeys’ title?

Gates Open: 3.40pm

First Race: 5.40pm

Last Race: 9.10pm
