Britain’s newest racing venue offers thrilling all-weather racing under the mesmerizing light of its champagne fluted floodlights and the venue also highlights its versatility with a huge range of non-raceday events.

The brand new facilities provide a wonderful setting from which to anchor your raceday experience. The Grandstand boasts two restaurants, one ideal for families, friends and corporate events, the other, a more formal environment and perfect to celebrate special occasions. The restaurants are complimented by the lively Sports Bar area offering various raceday packages and bars for general admission.

Non-raceday events for 2016 include concerts, comedy and murder mystery nights, wedding and antiques fairs and a whole host more, details of all of these events can be found under our “Venue Hire” tab.

In terms of prize money offered to our racing connections, Chelmsford City Racecourse consistently achieves its aim of sitting near the top of the table with regard to value and the course is reaping the rewards by hosting competitive races with large fields of runners.

Runners, Riders and Races

Sunday 7th February

Our third of six Sunday afternoon fixtures in 2016 is a cracker with over £85,000 prize money on offer.  The feature race of the day is the £30,000 Totequadpot Conditions race over five furlongs and we once again thank Totepool for their very kind sponsorship of the day.  This is a quality sprint for three year olds only and all of the entered horses have won or been placed last time out.  Expect to see some of these young sprinters battling it out at the All Weather Championships fixture at Lingfield on Good Friday.

It’s a day when the speed merchants take centre stage because our main supporting race is the £15,000 Toteexacta Handicap race also over the minimum trip of five furlongs. This race is for much more experienced campaigners like Hoofalong, part-owned by top golfer Lee Westwood.  If this horse is declared to run he may well pitch in with a win…

Our concluding race is an interesting £8,000 maiden race with a good few unexposed horses entered from the top yards.  Is there a horse or two to follow over the next few months?

Our 2016 fixture list is packed full of exciting racedays but we want you to know we do other events too!

Our Valentines Dine and Dance is taking place on the 13th February. An evening of intimate dining, romance and music with a live Rat Pack swing band playing classics from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and a DJ to help you dance the night away.

Following this, on a slightly more lively note, we are hosting the third of our Comedy at the Course nights on Friday 26th February, this time with headliner Mark Watson (Mock the week, Live at the Apollo, 8 out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks…) and support from McEmmanuel, Glen Lenny Sherman, Jason Simmons.

Following the success of our Madness concert in 2015, we are getting bigger and better with our music events and aim to host several events throughout 2016 in our “Summer Nights” programme.

The first band to be confirmed for this year is the fantastic SIMPLY RED who will be playing at the racecourse on 1st July.

Tickets are available through the “Buy Tickets” tab or by selecting 1st July on our full events page.
