Next Race Meeting Wednesday 4th May

Britain’s newest racing venue offers thrilling all-weather racing under the mesmerizing light of its champagne fluted floodlights and the venue also highlights its versatility with a huge range of non-raceday events.

The brand new facilities provide a wonderful setting from which to anchor your raceday experience. The Grandstand boasts two restaurants, one ideal for families, friends and corporate events, the other, a more formal environment and perfect to celebrate special occasions. The restaurants are complimented by the lively Sports Bar area offering various raceday packages and bars for general admission.

Non-raceday events for 2016 include concerts, comedy and murder mystery nights, wedding and antiques fairs and a whole host more, details of all of these events can be found under our “Venue Hire” tab.

In terms of prize money offered to our racing connections, Chelmsford City Racecourse consistently achieves its aim of sitting near the top of the table with regard to value and the course is reaping the rewards by hosting competitive races with large fields of runners.

Following the success of our Madness concert in 2015, we are getting bigger and better with our music events and aim to host several events throughout 2016 in our “Summer Nights” programme.

The first band to be confirmed for this year is the fantastic SIMPLY RED who will be playing at the racecourse on 1st July.

We will be hosting a three day concert on the 21st, 22nd, 23rd July when we will welcome the fantastic Katherine Jenkins, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, an eighties night featuring Rick Astley, Paul Young and Toyah Wilcox and a fun filled Saturday night with the Cuban beats of the Buena Vista Social Club supported by Kid Creole and the Coconuts!

The finale to our Summer Nights Music programme will be provided by Jools Holland on the 20th August. From his experiences on TV and the radio as well as the songs he has played with his own band, Jools has created a sensational playlist with music to suit everyone. Tickets will be released within the next month so keep an eye on the website and social media for more information!

Tickets are available through the “Buy Tickets” tab or by selecting the relevant date on our full fixtures list.

Runners, Riders and Races

by Fraser Garrity, Racecourse Manager

Wednesday 4th May

Gates Open: 3.45pm

First Race: 5.45pm

Last Race: 8.45 pm

Tomorrow night’s fixture at Chelmsford City Racecourse – our second evening meeting of the Spring/Summer season – is another high value card with nearly £100,000 prize money on offer to the runners and riders.  We are once again extremely appreciative of Betfred’s sponsorship of races at this meeting and are looking forward to staging two very good quality feature races.  Both are sure to attract the top trainers and riders and each is worth £20,000.  Of particular note is the one mile six furlongs Win a Football Fortune With Scoop6 Soccer Conditions Stakes for four year olds and up and don’t be surprised if the winner of this race wins further top quality staying races around the country later in the season.

Be sure to look out for the winner of the one mile two furlongs Median Auction Maiden Stakes too.  Last year this race was won by Hugo Palmer’s Covert Love and she went on to be one of the best three year old middle distance fillies in Europe, winning the Irish Oaks Classic at the Curragh just two months later!

Our 2016 fixture list is packed full of exciting racedays but we want you to know we do other events too!

Why don’t you experience a “horse-eye” view and run a lap of the track with our Fun Run Extravaganza on 28th April?! Working alongside the Mayor of Chelmsford, this event will be in aid of the YMCA Chelmsford. Registration is only £10 and includes free entry to the evening race meeting and another ticket at 50% for your supporter! Click on the date and “buy tickets” to register – fancy dress recommended but not essential!

Comedy at the Course returns on 29th April with Bobby Mair this time headlining an exciting evening of fun and laughter (Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 out of 10 Cats, The Hour, Sweat the Small Stuff and Virtually Famous). This event will be scheduled for the final Friday of every month and Comedy Club membership will get you an extra 20% off all bookings. For more information, please call the office on 01245 360300.
